Kathleen Coen

Kathleen Coen was born on 26th January 1918 to Olivia and James Coen. She  was was the 3rd youngest child of seven. Her mother Olivia died when Kathleen was 10 year old. More about that later.  " She was my mother and she was lovely!" 


#2After Olivia died in 1926, Paddie + Robbie stayed on the farm to help out, Olive took care of the younger children Celia + Kathleen who attended school (in Strokestown?) and Helena who suffered with congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) was sent to live at age 6 in the convent school (Saints Peter + Paul) in Athlone.   Circa 1928/1929 Kathleen & Celia were "taken/put" into a "home" in Sligo and Kathleen stayed there from then until she arrived in Dublin c1934/35/36, with Celia? still to be confirmed.


She married Michael Berney in 1945.




#1 Kathleen died 1st September 1983 aged 65.
